A pun like Agave Maria calls for an equally clever accompanying visual theme. Using the traditional Mexican prayer candle imagery as a reference, I created a series of posters using the images of famous Memphians and casting them as “patron saints”. Elvis was “Patron Saint of Rock ‘n’ Roll”, of course. Al Green, “Patron Saint of Love and Happiness”, and so on. The posters were placed in gilded frames and hung around the restaurant. The designs were also applied to prayer candles and placed at each table.
